South Kalimantan: Agriculture minister launches B50 biodiesel

Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman has initiated a soft launch of B50 biodiesel in South Kalimantan, utilizing Indonesia’s abundant crude palm oil (CPO). The announcement was made on Sunday, with Sulaiman expressing satisfaction with the initial testing of the B50 fuel.

“This is a momentous day; we tested B50 directly and the engine operated smoothly and normally,” Sulaiman stated, according to the ministry’s website.

As part of the soft launch, Sulaiman has been driving a vehicle powered by B50 fuel over the past few months. He highlighted that this trial marks a significant step towards achieving national food security and energy independence.

Sulaiman emphasized that these objectives are critical to Indonesia’s future, aligning with the vision of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and president-elect Prabowo Subianto. The trial took place at the PT Jhonlin Agro Raya biodiesel factory in Batulicin, Tanah Bumbu regency, South Kalimantan.

B50 biodiesel consists of a blend of 50 percent CPO and 50 percent diesel. Sulaiman noted that the demand for palm oil-based biodiesel is anticipated to rise considerably, especially for domestic use, as part of efforts to bolster national energy security.
