Sinopec to provide engineering services for Saudi Arabia’s green hydrogen mega project

China’s Sinopec announced on Tuesday that it has signed an agreement with Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power to provide engineering services for what is set to become the world’s largest integrated green hydrogen and green ammonia project, reports Reuters.

The facility will be developed in Yanbu city and is designed to produce about 400,000 metric tons of green hydrogen and 2.8 million tons of green ammonia each year, powered entirely by wind and solar energy, Sinopec said.

Commercial operations are scheduled to begin in 2030. The company did not disclose the financial terms of the agreement.

Sinopec Engineering Group, a subsidiary of Sinopec, will handle the project’s front-end engineering design as well as the convertible engineering, procurement, and construction work.

The partnership highlights growing cooperation between China and Saudi Arabia in the clean energy sector, as both nations accelerate their renewable energy and carbon reduction goals.
