In a landmark development under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, the first- ever auction conducted by SECI for the procurement of Green Ammonia under the SIGHT Scheme (Mode-2A) has achieved a record low price discovery of ₹55.75/kg.
This landmark auction will see the supply of 75,000 metric tonnes of Green Ammonia per year to Paradeep Phosphates Limited in Odisha. It is the first of 13 auctions planned in the coming month, as part of a larger tender with a total procurement target of 7.24 lakh metric tonnes annually.
The discovered price equates to about USD 641 per metric tonne, a dramatic decrease from the ₹100.28 per kilogram (USD 1,153 per metric tonne) price reached in the 2024 H2Global auction. With Grey Ammonia prices at USD 515 per metric tonne (as of March 2025), this fixed-price bid for 10 years offers a strong economic incentive for offtakers to begin their transition to clean energy.
SECI, acting as the intermediary procurer, has successfully executed the auction under the oversight of the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE), with valuable support from the Department of Fertilizers and participating offtakers.
This price discovery represents a pivotal moment in India’s Green Hydrogen journey, reaffirming the country’s ambition to become a global leader in Green Hydrogen production. The auction saw fierce competition, highlighting the strong confidence from investors and developers in India’s green energy transition framework.
With solid payment security measures in place, the scheme fosters confidence throughout the value chain, paving the way for large-scale adoption of Green Ammonia and other related derivatives.
