Rs 4,000 crore deal: Adani Power completes acquisition of 600 MW Vidarbha Power

Adani Power, the country’s largest private thermal power producer, has completed the acquisition and implementation of the resolution plan for Vidarbha Industries Power Ltd. (VIPL) at a total value of Rs 4,000 crore, according to an official company statement.

VIPL, which operates a 2×300 MW coal-fired power plant in Butibori, located in Nagpur district, Maharashtra, was undergoing Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code. The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), Mumbai Bench, approved Adani Power’s resolution plan on June 18, 2025. The company announced that the plan was fully implemented on July 7, 2025.

With the addition of VIPL, Adani Power’s total operational capacity rises to 18,150 MW. The company is actively expanding its base load power generation portfolio through a mix of greenfield and brownfield projects.

Currently, Adani Power is developing six ultra-supercritical thermal power units of 1,600 MW each at its existing sites in Singrauli-Mahan (Madhya Pradesh), Raipur, Raigarh, and Korba (Chhattisgarh), and Kawai (Rajasthan). A greenfield ultra-supercritical project of 1,600 MW is also underway in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh.

In addition, the company is reviving construction of a previously acquired 1,320 MW supercritical thermal plant at Korba. Once all these projects are completed, Adani Power is expected to reach an operational base load capacity of 30,670 MW by 2030, further reinforcing its leadership in the private power generation space.

“The acquisition of VIPL marks a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to unlock value through the turnaround of distressed assets,” said SB Khyalia, CEO of Adani Power. “As we expand our portfolio, we remain focused on supporting India’s goal of ‘Electricity for All’ by ensuring reliable and affordable base-load power to drive sustainable growth.”

Adani Power Ltd. is part of the Adani portfolio and currently operates thermal power plants across Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Tamil Nadu. It also manages a 40 MW solar power facility in Gujarat.
