PM Modi to inaugurate India’s first bamboo-based ethanol plant in September

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday visited the Numaligarh Refinery in Golaghat district to assess the progress of India’s first bamboo-based ethanol plant, ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit in September. The Prime Minister is set to inaugurate the plant, which will be the country’s first bio-refinery of its kind, reported ChiniMandi.

The plant, being developed at a cost of Rs 4,000 crore, aims to transform the bamboo biomass available in the region into ethanol, marking a significant milestone in India’s biofuel ambitions.

During the visit, CM Sarma chaired a review meeting with senior officials from the refinery, including ministers, MPs, and MLAs. The meeting also focused on preparations for the Prime Minister’s visit, during which he is expected to dedicate the ethanol project to the nation.

In addition to the review of the bamboo-based ethanol project, Sarma took stock of the ongoing expansion activities at Numaligarh Refinery. He also inaugurated the Dhansiri Nagar Township, which was developed for the refinery staff.

The review meeting saw the participation of key officials, including Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, Finance Minister Ajanta Neog, Public Health Engineering Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, Minister of Tea Tribes and Adivasi Welfare Rupesh Gowala, MPs Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, and several MLAs, including Bhabendra Nath Bharali, Mrinal Saikia, and Biswajit Phukan.
