PM Chinh suggests PetroVietnam and FS explore joint investment in ethanol production

During his official visit to Brazil, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with top executives from several major Brazilian companies in Rio de Janeiro on July 6 to explore opportunities for deeper business and investment cooperation between the two countries.

The meetings, held on the sidelines of the expanded BRICS Summit, focused on key sectors including food processing, biofuels, aviation, and agriculture. Leaders of Brazil’s prominent firms expressed strong interest in expanding their presence in Vietnam and strengthening trade links.

In his meeting with executives from JBS, one of the world’s largest food companies, Prime Minister Chinh said Vietnam could serve as a valuable bridge for the company to reach other Asian markets such as China and ASEAN countries. He invited JBS to partner with Vietnamese firms to bring more products to local consumers and also include Vietnamese agricultural goods in its international supply network. Chinh added that Vietnam has trade agreements with more than 60 economies, offering strong advantages to global investors. He also encouraged JBS to support Vietnam’s efforts in negotiating a free trade deal with Brazil and the MERCOSUR bloc.

The Prime Minister later met with FS, a leading Brazilian company in corn-based ethanol production. He spoke about Vietnam’s determination to transition to cleaner energy and achieve its net-zero emissions goal by 2050. Welcoming FS’s interest in working with Vietnam on biofuels, Chinh asked government agencies to explore setting up a cooperation mechanism with the Brazilian company. He suggested that FS work closely with Vietnamese energy firms, including PetroVietnam, to share technical knowledge, expand production, and help Vietnam gain access to E10 fuel at affordable prices. He also proposed joint investments in ethanol production, either in Vietnam or Brazil.

In talks with Embraer, the world’s third-largest commercial aircraft manufacturer, Chinh said he hoped to see more cooperation in the aviation sector. He suggested that Embraer aircraft could help Vietnamese airlines modernize their fleets and improve efficiency. Chinh invited the company to work with Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet, and other local carriers. He also recommended launching a direct flight route between Vietnam and Brazil, creating a maintenance center for aircraft, and building a training facility for aviation professionals in Vietnam. Embraer executive Jose Serrador Neto responded positively, saying the company is ready to deepen its partnership with Vietnam and support efforts to improve bilateral trade and investment policies.

The Prime Minister also held discussions with William Shuhei Fujikura, director of Granja Fujikura, a high-tech farming company with Japanese roots that now operates in Brazil. The company is working with Vietnam’s Trong Khoi Company to develop quail farming in Vietnam and across Asia. Fujikura expressed interest in expanding agricultural cooperation with Vietnam. Prime Minister Chinh welcomed the partnership and stressed Vietnam’s goal of boosting its agricultural exports to reach 100 billion USD in the coming years. He promised continued reforms to support both domestic and foreign companies operating in Vietnam’s farming sector and encouraged Granja Fujikura to help bring more Vietnamese agricultural products into Brazilian and international markets.

The meetings highlighted Vietnam’s efforts to deepen ties with Brazil’s business community and promote two-way trade and investment across multiple industries.
