Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal met with Kim Yin Wong, Group President and CEO of Sembcorp, on Saturday to discuss India’s progress in renewable energy and explore collaboration opportunities. The conversation focused on several key areas, including clean energy, green hydrogen, industrial parks, and skill development, highlighting India’s dedication to sustainable growth and fostering global partnerships in its energy transition.
Goyal later shared on the social media platform X, stating, “Held a meeting with Mr. Kim Yin Wong, Group President & CEO of Sembcorp. We discussed India’s remarkable achievements in renewable energy and its ambitious goals, as well as explored collaboration opportunities in clean energy, green hydrogen, industrial parks, and skill development.”
In another post, he expressed his enthusiasm for addressing the ‘India-Singapore@60: Partnership for Growth and Innovation’ Business Session alongside Gan Siow Huang, Singapore’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Trade & Industry. Goyal emphasized the importance of increased collaboration and business-to-business (B2B) opportunities between the two countries, with a focus on strengthening trade and investment ties for a more balanced, inclusive, and future-ready economic partnership.
Earlier, during his three-day official visit to Singapore, Goyal also met with Singapore’s Prime Minister, Lawrence Wong. They discussed strengthening trade relations, enhancing cooperation, and exploring new avenues for future growth. According to a government statement released on Friday, the visit showcased India’s strong growth trajectory, commitment to investment-driven reforms, and the wide range of opportunities available for global partners in manufacturing, infrastructure, financial services, and the green economy.
Goyal’s bilateral discussions with Gan Kim Yong, Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry, focused on deepening industrial and trade cooperation between India and Singapore. Additionally, Goyal met with Vivian Balakrishnan, Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, where both sides reaffirmed their strategic trust and alignment on regional and global economic priorities.
The Union Minister also held meetings with Bryan Yeo, Group CIO of GIC, and Dilhan Pillay, CEO of Temasek, focusing on expanding India-focused portfolios in infrastructure, hospitality, renewable energy, financial services, and urban development. A key highlight of the visit was a Business Roundtable on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in India’s manufacturing sector, attended by prominent decision-makers from AmCham, EuroCham, the German Chamber of Industry & Commerce, and other business leaders.
In addition to these high-level engagements, Goyal had strategic business discussions with major Singaporean corporates and institutional investors. His visit to SIA Engineering Company (SIAEC) also saw discussions on India’s rapidly growing Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) sector and the importance of fast-tracking the India-Singapore Skilling Centre for MRO professionals, in collaboration with Indian universities.
