Oman’s Hydrom partners with local firm to advance green hydrogen ambitions

In a key move to support its national green hydrogen strategy, Oman’s state-owned energy transition company, Hydrom, has signed an agreement with the local firm Ankaa Space & Technologies. The partnership will focus on gathering precise wind data, a critical step for planning large-scale renewable energy projects, reports Energies Media.

This collaboration is central to Oman’s goal of becoming a leading regional producer and exporter of green hydrogen. As a nation historically rich in oil and gas, it is now actively diversifying its energy sector by harnessing its potential for wind and solar power.

The agreement mandates Ankaa to collect high-quality wind measurement data. This information is essential for designing and accelerating the development of wind farms and the hybrid renewable energy systems that will power Oman’s green hydrogen facilities.

Abdulaziz bin Said Al Shidhani, Managing Director of Hydrom, emphasized the partnership’s role in building local expertise. “This agreement marks a key step in engaging Omani enterprises and specialized talent,” he stated. “Hydrom will extend technical guidance and implement training programs that enable Omani professionals to gain hands-on experience. These efforts strengthen Oman’s capacity to localize critical technologies.”

The initiative is a direct component of Oman’s long-term economic blueprint, Vision 2040, which prioritizes economic diversification and building a sustainable, knowledge-based economy.

Mohammed Al Riyami, Chief Executive Officer of Ankaa Space & Technologies, echoed this commitment, saying, “We are committed to executing this agreement to the highest standards and to building national capabilities… Partnering with Hydrom provides a model of effective public–private collaboration that supports Oman’s vision to localize value chains.”

This data-gathering project aligns with a global trend of investing in wind power. Oman’s systematic approach to developing a “bankable” and investment-ready green hydrogen ecosystem positions it to compete in the emerging global market for clean energy.
