Ola Electric rolls out first ‘Shakti’ from its gigafactory powered by indigenous 4680 Bharat Cells

Ola Electric has rolled out the first unit of its residential energy storage system, branded ‘Shakti’, from its Gigafactory in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, marking a significant step toward scaling up its indigenous 4680 Bharat Cell platform.

With Shakti, the company enters India’s residential Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) market, expanding its operations beyond the automotive sector. In an exchange filing, Ola Electric said the product represents a shift in how energy is accessed and managed in India, positioning power as a portable, on-demand resource for households, farms, and businesses.

Bhavish Aggarwal, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Ola, said the company’s cell manufacturing business is gaining momentum with domestic research and development. “The first Ola Shakti rolls off the line in our Gigafactory! Our Cell business is ramping up with full Indian R&D. Researched in India, Engineered in India, Made in India,” he wrote in a post on X.

Developed and manufactured at Ola Electric’s Gigafactory, Shakti underscores the company’s focus on innovation, localisation, and technological leadership. According to the company, the launch reflects years of sustained investment in research and development, advanced manufacturing capabilities, and supply-chain resilience.

Ola Electric said Shakti offers automotive-grade safety, high efficiency, and zero running and maintenance costs. Unlike conventional lead-acid inverters or diesel generators, the system provides instant, zero-millisecond changeover, operates within a wide input voltage range of 200V to 240V to protect appliances from voltage fluctuations, and features spill-proof, IP67-rated batteries tested for dust, water, and monsoon conditions.

Built on Ola’s core technology platform, Shakti is designed to offer an intelligent and automated energy management experience. Users will be able to monitor battery status and energy flow in real time, analyse usage patterns to optimise energy consumption automatically, and receive insights aimed at reducing costs and energy use, the company said.

Powered by the indigenous 4680 Bharat Cell, Ola Shakti is intended to make reliable, affordable, and intelligent energy storage accessible to homes, farms, and businesses across India. “This is not just a new product; it is a foundational building block for India’s energy independence and a future driven by clean, decentralised, and on-demand energy,” an Ola Electric spokesperson said.

According to details shared in the exchange filing, Ola Shakti will be offered in four configurations: 1kW/1.5kWh, 1kW/3kWh, 3kW/5.2kWh, and 6kW/9.1kWh. The system can power appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators, induction cookers, farm pumps, and communication equipment, with charging times of as little as two hours and backup support of up to 1.5 hours at full load.

The product is now open for reservations on the Ola Electric website with a booking amount of Rs 999, the company said.
