Ola Electric Begins Delivery of Vehicles Powered by Indigenous 4680 Bharat Cells

Ola Electric has commenced deliveries of electric vehicles powered by its indigenously developed 4680 Bharat cells, marking a significant milestone in India’s domestic electric mobility and advanced battery manufacturing ecosystem. The development aligns with the company’s broader strategy to localise key EV components and reduce dependence on imported battery technologies.

The 4680 Bharat cell, manufactured at Ola’s Gigafactory, is designed to offer higher energy density, improved thermal management, and enhanced vehicle range compared to conventional lithium-ion battery formats. According to the company, the new cell architecture also enables better structural integration, contributing to improved performance and cost efficiency.

The rollout of vehicles equipped with these cells is expected to strengthen India’s EV supply chain while supporting the government’s push for self-reliance under the ‘Make in India’ initiative. Industry experts view the move as a step toward scaling advanced battery manufacturing in the country, which is critical for accelerating EV adoption.

Ola Electric stated that the use of homegrown battery technology would play a key role in lowering EV costs over time and supporting India’s clean mobility transition, while also creating a foundation for future innovations in energy storage and sustainable transportation.
