NLC India signs MoU with Gujarat for ₹25,000 crore renewable energy projects

NLC India Limited (NLCIL) has entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Government of Gujarat to jointly pursue large-scale renewable energy projects in the state, with a proposed investment potential estimated at about ₹25,000 crore, reports The Economic Times.

As part of the agreement, the Gujarat government will assist the projects by enabling required approvals, clearances and registrations in line with existing state policies, supporting their completion within planned timelines.

An official statement said the proposed partnership covers the development of renewable energy projects such as solar, wind, hybrid systems and battery energy storage facilities across Gujarat. The MoU is non-binding and is expected to create considerable employment opportunities.

The agreement was signed during the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference for the Saurashtra and Kutch region, held in Rajkot on January 12, 2026.

The projects will be implemented through NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL), a wholly owned subsidiary and the renewable energy arm of NLC India Limited. The move is in line with NLCIL’s corporate plan to build 10 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.

NLC India said the agreement strengthens Gujarat’s role as a centre for renewable energy development and supports India’s wider goals of increasing power generation from non-fossil fuel sources and moving towards net-zero emissions.

The MoU was signed by Devendra Pratap Singh, Executive Director (Projects and Business Development) and Chief Executive Officer of NLC India Renewables Limited, on behalf of NLC India Limited, and Bhakthi Shamal, Joint Secretary, Energy and Petrochemicals Department, on behalf of the Gujarat government. The signing took place in the presence of Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Gujarat ministers Jitubhai Vaghani, Rushikesh Patel and Kaushikbhai Vekariya.
