After inaugurating a lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility for strong hybrid electric vehicles in Ahmedabad, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday highlighted that a “new chapter” has been added to India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.
The Prime Minister described the development as a significant step forward in India’s mission of ‘Make in India, Make for the World’. He noted that electric vehicles manufactured in India will now be exported to 100 countries, and the domestic production of hybrid battery electrolytes has also commenced.
“Amid the festive spirit of Ganesh Utsav, a new milestone is being added to India’s ‘Make in India’ journey. This is a major leap toward our goal of ‘Make in India, Make for the World’. From today, electric vehicles made in India will be exported to 100 nations. Along with this, hybrid battery electrolyte manufacturing is also starting in the country,” said PM Modi.
The Prime Minister further stated that this occasion marks a new dimension in India-Japan relations. He inaugurated the localized production of hybrid battery electrodes and flagged off exports of battery electric vehicles to 100 countries from Hansalpur, Ahmedabad.
“This day also marks a new phase in the friendship between India and Japan. Just as the 13th year signifies the beginning of teenage—a phase where dreams begin to soar—Maruti in Gujarat is entering its teenage years. This means Maruti is ready to spread its wings and move forward with renewed energy and ambition,” he said.
Reflecting on the history of this collaboration, PM Modi recalled that during his tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat, land was allotted to Suzuki for their plant in Hansalpur in 2012.
“The seeds of India’s current success were planted about 13 years ago. In 2012, as Chief Minister of Gujarat, we allocated land to Maruti Suzuki in Hansalpur,” he said.
He went on to underscore India’s strengths—its democratic foundation, demographic advantage, and a vast skilled workforce—calling them key assets that create mutually beneficial opportunities for global partners.
“India has the strength of democracy, the benefit of demography, and a large, skilled workforce. Together, these create a win-win situation for all our partners,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
Highlighting a strong example of global trust, PM Modi pointed out that Suzuki Japan is producing in India, and vehicles made here are being exported back to Japan. He called this a powerful symbol of India-Japan relations and growing international confidence in India.
“This is more than just a testament to India-Japan ties—it reflects global trust in India’s capabilities. In a way, companies like Maruti Suzuki have become brand ambassadors of ‘Make in India’. Soon, EVs operating in dozens of countries will proudly carry the label ‘Made in India’,” said PM Modi.
