Libya, Germany’s H2 Global to collaborate on major green hydrogen project

Libya’s Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy has partnered with Germany’s H2 Global to advance plans for a large-scale green hydrogen project that could position the North African nation as a key player in the global clean energy market, reports Hydrogen Central.

In a recent strategic meeting, both sides agreed to work toward producing up to 1 million tons of green hydrogen annually for export. The project is expected to generate significant economic gains, including the creation of more than 10,000 jobs and higher national revenues.

Officials said a memorandum of understanding will soon be drafted, marking a concrete step in Libya’s shift toward renewable energy and diversifying its traditionally oil-dependent economy.

If implemented, the venture would represent one of the largest renewable energy projects in the region, highlighting Libya’s ambitions to play a bigger role in the international energy transition.
