King Charles’ Bentleys to run on biofuel as part of sustainability drive

King Charles III’s two state Bentleys will undergo conversion to run on biofuel within the coming year as part of the UK royal palace’s sustainability efforts. In the longer term, there are plans to transition to a fleet of official electric cars. The annual accounts for the Royal Household, as reported by the BBC, outline several new environmentally friendly measures.

King Charles III has been a longstanding advocate for climate issues, and the latest accounts, covering the first full financial year of his reign, reflect his commitment to change. Windsor Castle is set to install solar panels for the first time, and efforts are underway to retrofit the gas lanterns at Buckingham Palace with custom-designed electrical fittings to enhance energy efficiency while preserving their historic appearance and illumination.

Sir Michael Stevens, Keeper of the Privy Purse, emphasized that these environmental initiatives are driven by a strong commitment to integrate sustainability into operational practices, inspired by King Charles III’s leadership in this area. Reflecting on his decades-long advocacy for environmental concerns, King Charles III has noted that his early discussions on these topics in the 1970s were initially met with skepticism.
