JKSH to set up green hydrogen and ammonia project in Krishna district

Vijayawada: Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh is set to see a major boost in development with the announcement of a large green hydrogen and ammonia project by JK Srivastava & Hynfra (JKSH) Limited. The company plans to invest ₹35,000 crore to set up a facility in Machilipatnam that will produce 150 kilotons of hydrogen and 600 kilotons of green ammonia annually, reports The New Indian Express.

The project is expected to generate jobs for nearly 10,000 people and will run entirely on renewable energy, including solar and wind power. Battery storage and modern energy management systems will support the plant, which is scheduled to begin operations by 2029.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was recently signed between JKSH and the New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP) in the presence of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

Though the project was originally planned for Visakhapatnam, it was later shifted to Krishna district due to the availability of large government land parcels. Krishna district has a total land bank of over 1.86 lakh acres, with 1.24 lakh acres located in Machilipatnam division. Gudivada and Vuyyuru divisions have 35,340 acres and 26,489 acres available respectively. Another 52,880 acres of assigned land are also open for use. This land availability at low cost has made the area attractive for investors.

Machilipatnam is also home to a new port that is currently under construction. The port, which is closest to both Andhra Pradesh’s capital and the state of Telangana, has already completed 50% of its work and is expected to become operational by the end of 2026.

Officials see the hydrogen-ammonia project as a significant opportunity for the region. “This project will give the area a strong push toward industrial growth,” said a senior state official. “It brings large-scale investment and thousands of jobs to the people.”

This latest development follows previous announcements by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) regarding plans for an oil refinery and petrochemical complex in the region, as well as a proposal from Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) for a mega logistics hub. With multiple major projects lined up, Machilipatnam is fast becoming a new centre for industrial activity in the state.
