Jindal Steel commissions new 3 MTPA Basic Oxygen Furnace at Angul, expands steelmaking capacity to 9 MTPA

Jindal Steel has successfully commissioned its new 250 MT Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF) Converter at the Angul integrated steel plant, enhancing its crude steelmaking capacity by an additional 3 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). With the first heat now tapped, the company’s total steelmaking capacity at the Angul facility has increased from 6 MTPA to 9 MTPA. This brings the plant closer to its target of reaching 12 MTPA by the end of the current financial year.

The simultaneous commissioning of Blast Furnace 2 and the BOF Converter represents a major step towards India’s self-reliance in steel production. This integrated approach ensures a steady supply of domestically produced steel to key sectors such as infrastructure, energy, automotive, oil & gas, and real estate.

Naveen Jindal, Chairman of Jindal Steel, commented, “With the new BOF now operational and the first heat tapped, Angul has significantly strengthened its steelmaking capabilities. Every tonne we produce here enhances India’s capacity to meet its own steel requirements.”
