Indonesia plans to increase the use of palm oil-based B40 biodiesel in 2025, shifting from the current B35 blend, according to a statement from the energy ministry, reported Malaya Business Insight.
As the world’s largest producer of palm oil, Indonesia currently mandates a 35 percent blend of palm oil in biodiesel. The country aims to upgrade this to a 40 percent blend to reduce energy imports and boost palm oil consumption.
If the new blend is adopted, overall biodiesel consumption could reach up to 16 million kiloliters next year, the ministry noted.
As per media report, the ministry announced on Tuesday that it had tested the B40 biodiesel, containing 40 percent palm oil, on a train earlier this week for the first time. Additionally, this year, the ministry plans to test the B40 blend on agricultural machinery, power plants, and in the shipping industry.
