IndianOil equips Indian navy with Green Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus strengthening its commitment for Green Hydrogen E-Mobility

In a significant milestone towards promoting sustainable, eco-friendly transportation solutions, IndianOil has handed over a state-of-the-art green hydrogen fuel cell bus to the Indian Navy. This landmark event was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between IndianOil and the Indian Navy to pioneer the deployment of hydrogen fuel cell technology for heavy-duty e-mobility.

In the presence of Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of Naval Staff, Mr. S M Vaidya, Chairman, IndianOil and senior officials of IndianOil and Indian Navy, the MoU was exchanged between Vice Admiral, Deepak Kapoor, Controller of Logistics, Indian Navy and Dr Kannan Chandrasekaran, Executive Director, IndianOil at the Nau Sena Bhawan, New Delhi.
Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi emphasized the strong partnership between Indian Oil and the Indian Navy, highlighting their shared commitment to testing hydrogen buses and promoting environmentally-friendly transportation solutions. He thanked Indian Oil for selecting the Indian Navy as their partner, aligning with the Navy’s motto of being a “Combat Ready, Credible, Cohesive, and Future Ready Force.”

S M Vaidya expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, describing it as a milestone in their joint pursuit of sustainability and environmental stewardship. He underscored Indian Oil’s dedication to advancing green hydrogen and fuel cell technologies, catering to future needs.

Indian Oil currently operates 15 fuel cell buses in Delhi-NCR and Gujarat, collectively covering 300,000 kilometres. These buses are expected to run 20,000 kilometres each.

The project aims to evaluate fuel cell technology’s performance under Delhi NCR’s climatic conditions and analyze its impact on local fuel and air quality. It also seeks to assess the longevity and reliability of fuel cell buses for public fleet utilization.

Moody’s recently affirmed a stable outlook for Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), acknowledging its robust balance sheet and status as India’s largest refining and marketing company. IOCL specializes in oil refining, marketing, and distribution of petroleum products, petrochemicals, and natural gas, with majority ownership by the Indian government.
