Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu underscored the growing role of green hydrogen in addressing climate change during his address at the Green Hydrogen Summit held at SRM University in Amaravati. Speaking to energy industry leaders, Naidu called on power generation companies to invest in research and innovation related to green hydrogen and its wide-ranging applications, reports Hans India.
“I came here to hear your thoughts and learn about your innovations,” Naidu told managing directors and CEOs of leading energy firms. “Back in 1999, I introduced electricity reforms that temporarily affected power supply. Now, our focus must shift to producing and storing low-cost green electricity. Andhra Pradesh should lead this transformation.”
Naidu stressed the strategic importance of the green hydrogen sector at the national level, pointing out that the Central government and NITI Aayog have identified it as a key area of development. He shared his long-term vision of turning Andhra Pradesh into a “hydro valley,” noting the state’s natural advantages for producing and transporting green hydrogen.
Recalling past challenges in power supply, the Chief Minister referred to the 1995 initiative that used a reverse pump system at Srisailam to generate electricity during periods of high demand. He urged the energy sector to adopt similar innovative thinking to meet today’s climate and energy challenges.
Naidu also highlighted that large-scale production of green hydrogen could drive down electricity costs significantly. He welcomed recent efforts by the Centre and NTPC to set up green hydrogen facilities in Visakhapatnam and announced plans to develop ports every 50 kilometres along the Andhra Pradesh coast to support logistics and export of green energy resources.
With a clear focus on sustainability, innovation, and infrastructure, Naidu reiterated that Andhra Pradesh must become a hub for renewable energy and green hydrogen development.
