IH2A calls for an additional $2.5 billion allocation to boost the green hydrogen mission

New Delhi: The India Hydrogen Alliance (IH2A) has called on the government to increase funding for the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) by an additional $2.5 billion, on top of the $2.3 billion already allocated. The move aims to address delays in project development and the lack of agreements with potential buyers, helping to accelerate the growth of India’s green hydrogen industry, reported ET EnergyWorld.com

IH2A has expressed concerns that the high cost of green hydrogen is discouraging industries like refineries, fertilizers, steel, chemicals, and heavy transport from committing to long-term use. To tackle this challenge, the alliance has proposed incentives for industrial buyers, funding for shared hydrogen infrastructure at key hydrogen hubs, and the creation of Green Hydrogen Development Corporations to manage large-scale projects and establish hydrogen hubs.

The group has also recommended that public funds be used to set up five additional National Hydrogen Hubs, working alongside state governments and project developers. Amrit Singh Deo, IH2A’s Secretariat Lead, stressed the urgency of addressing cost barriers. “Potential green hydrogen buyers are hesitating due to high costs. Increasing NGHM’s budget by $2.5 billion will enable incentives for industries, boost project development, and ensure India achieves its green hydrogen goals for 2030,” he said.

This increased funding, IH2A believes, will encourage industrial adoption of green hydrogen, build the necessary infrastructure, and help India meet its renewable energy targets while supporting a transition to cleaner energy solutions.
