Gujarat: Police seize suspected biodiesel from bus in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, Gujarat: Police in Ahmedabad’s Sarkhej area intercepted a bus on June 16, seizing 560 liters of a liquid believed to be an unauthorized fuel. The seizure occurred around 11 p.m. at the Sanand Circle flyover bridge, near the Iskcon temple, leading to the arrest of three individuals, reports The Times of India.

Police officials reported that the confiscated substance was being transported without any safety precautions or necessary government permits. The liquid was discovered in 16 plastic containers, each holding 35 liters, stashed inside the bus. The estimated street value of the liquid is Rs 36,400, while the bus itself is valued at Rs 10 lakh.

Authorities suspect the liquid was acquired through illegal means from a closed petrol station near Vavdi in Rajkot. To confirm its contents and origin, samples were taken from each of the containers.

The samples were carefully marked, sealed, signed, and packaged following standard procedures, with Assistant Police Commissioner S.M. Patel overseeing the process. Of the total 48 sample canisters collected, 16 were set aside for specialized laboratory testing, another 16 were sent to the Food and Safety office for examination, and the remaining 16 were given to the bus owner, Ravi Balasara.

Police have arrested three people in connection with the incident: the bus owner, a person who intended to buy the liquid, and a person who supplied it. Legal action has begun under relevant laws concerning essential goods. Sarkhej police are continuing their investigation to identify any other individuals involved in this operation.
