Godrej Agrovet partners with Provivi to offer sustainable crop solutions for rice and maize farmers

Provivi, a global leader in crop protection, has partnered with Godrej Agrovet Limited (GAVL), a prominent food and agribusiness conglomerate, to introduce sustainable pest control solutions for rice and maize farmers in India.

As part of this strategic collaboration, GAVL will bring eco-friendly pest management solutions to the Indian market. The company will distribute Provivi’s YSB Eco-Dispenser, designed to control Yellow Stem Borer (YSB) in rice, and will hold exclusive commercialization rights for Provivi’s FAW Eco-Dispenser, which targets Fall Armyworm (FAW) in maize.

“These pheromone-based technologies provide Indian farmers with advanced, environmentally responsible pest control solutions,” said GAVL in a press release.

Rice and maize are crucial crops in India, playing a key role in the country’s food security and economy. India is a major player in the global rice market and a leading producer of maize, which supports a wide range of industries.

Maize is one of India’s top crops, supplying food, feed, and fodder for livestock, as well as serving as a vital raw material for various industrial products such as starch, corn oil, corn syrup, alcoholic beverages, cosmetics, and biofuels. Maize is also a key feedstock for ethanol production in India, with the industry anticipating increased use of maize to meet growing biofuel demands.

Balram Singh Yadav, Managing Director of GAVL, shared his thoughts on the partnership, stating, “With the rise in pest challenges due to changing climate patterns, it’s more important than ever to provide Indian farmers with sustainable, innovative technologies that improve productivity. Our collaboration with Provivi combines their expertise with our vast distribution network, ensuring we can offer timely, effective support to farmers.”

Rajavelu NK, CEO of GAVL’s Crop Protection Business, emphasized the ongoing threats posed by Yellow Stem Borer and Fall Armyworm to rice and maize crops, which increase production costs for farmers. He noted, “Yellow Stem Borer and Fall Armyworm are significant threats to rice and maize, raising production costs for farmers. Given the growing need for sustainable solutions in agriculture, we are excited to partner with Provivi to provide farmers with innovative, eco-friendly tools to tackle these pests. Our joint Integrated Pest Management efforts will deliver effective, sustainable solutions that protect rice and maize cultivation.”

Corey Huck, CEO of Provivi, added, “This partnership enables us to expand our reach into one of the world’s fastest-growing agricultural markets, and we are thrilled to bring these eco-friendly pest control solutions to Indian farmers.”

Provivi’s YSB and FAW Eco-Dispensers are made from biodegradable materials, ensuring long-lasting effectiveness while minimizing environmental impact. These products are expected to be available to Indian farmers starting in 2029, according to the press release.

GAVL is a diversified company with operations spanning animal nutrition, crop protection, dairy, poultry, processed foods, and oil palm. In the crop protection sector, the company has a strong B2B presence through its subsidiary Astec Lifesciences, and its expansive distribution network covers all of India. In the dairy, poultry, and processed foods sectors, GAVL operates through its subsidiaries Creamline Dairy Products and Godrej Foods. The company also has a joint venture with ACI Group of Bangladesh in the animal feed business.
