Geo Alam Environmental Sdn Bhd (Geo Alam), a prominent Malaysian environmental services provider and a subsidiary of YTL Cement Group, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sinoma International Environment Engineering Co., Ltd (SIEE) and CBMI Construction Co., Ltd (CBMI). The collaboration is aimed at bringing advanced waste management technologies to Malaysia, with the broader goal of reducing landfill dependency and supporting national decarbonisation initiatives by converting waste into alternative industrial fuels.
This partnership leverages the strengths of each organisation: Geo Alam brings deep local knowledge and familiarity with regulatory frameworks, while SIEE and CBMI contribute more than 60 years of combined experience in environmental solutions and cement-related technologies. Together, the trio has overseen the management of over 10 million tonnes of municipal solid waste, industrial waste, and hazardous materials across numerous large-scale projects globally—demonstrating both operational depth and technical capability.
Under the terms of the MoU, the three parties will jointly develop, invest in, and manage integrated waste treatment facilities across Malaysia. These facilities will handle various waste types—including municipal, industrial, hazardous, and construction and demolition waste—and will convert suitable materials into alternative fuels or raw materials for use in industries such as cement manufacturing.
The collaboration is designed to provide sustainable, locally adapted waste management solutions that support government agencies, industrial sectors, and third-party waste operators in achieving environmental compliance, reducing emissions, and promoting the country’s circular economy goals.
During the MoU signing, Clarisse Loh, Director of Operations at Geo Alam, remarked: “The growth of landfills is a serious concern that demands urgent, collective solutions. Poorly managed waste has significant environmental and health implications. This partnership is a key step forward. By merging our local expertise with the technical strengths of SIEE and CBMI, we’re positioned to introduce scalable and effective waste management practices across Malaysia.”
Zhao Danhui, Vice President of SIEE, commented: “We’re proud to join forces with Geo Alam and CBMI in supporting Malaysia’s transition to a more sustainable waste management framework. This collaboration reflects our ongoing commitment to delivering advanced, adaptable environmental technologies tailored to local needs. We look forward to contributing our experience to help drive a more circular and resilient industrial ecosystem.”
Ma Jingwei, Managing Director of CBMI’s Malaysian operations, added:
“CBMI has been a trusted name in the global cement industry for decades, having delivered over 150 integrated projects in more than 35 countries. We’re excited to extend that expertise in Malaysia. As a leading EPC provider focused on decarbonisation and innovation, we see this joint initiative with Geo Alam and SIEE as a powerful step toward practical, forward-looking waste-to-fuel and waste-to-material solutions.”
