Galp, a leading Portuguese multinational energy corporation, LOKEN, a Malaysian energy company developing one of Southeast Asia’s first renewable complexes, and SAFCO Venture Holdings Limited (SAFCO Ventures) have chosen Axens’ Vegan® solution for their Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (HVO/SAF) production facilities in Portugal, Malaysia, and Pakistan. The adoption of this technology will support their efforts to reduce their global carbon footprint and transition from conventional to renewable fuel technologies.
Axens will provide the technology license, catalysts, proprietary equipment, training, and technical support for these new projects.
Axens pioneered the first-generation biodiesel market in the 1990s with its Esterfip™ technologies, earning the Kirkpatrick Award for Chemical Engineering Achievement in 2007 for its innovative transesterification process. In the mid-2000s, Axens developed the Vegan® technology through IFP Energies Nouvelles, following an extensive research and development program. Eight years after the successful start-up of its first reference unit, Axens’ Vegan® technology has become a globally recognized solution for producing SAF/HVO via the Hydroprocessed Esters and Fatty Acids (HEFA) pathway.
Additionally, three more Vegan® units are expected to begin operation in the coming months. Jean-Luc Nocca, Executive Vice President of Commercial at Axens, remarked, “We are honored to supply our Vegan® technology to these three prominent energy companies with ambitious energy transition goals. With our proven and widely adopted solution, we are proud to play a role in the industry’s drive to decarbonize the energy sector. These projects, which are the first of their kind in their respective countries, represent significant milestones for both Axens and our partners.”
