GAIL plans to commission its first green hydrogen project in April: Report

According to the news report by Reuters, GAIL (India) Ltd, a state-run natural gas company, is mulling to launch its first green hydrogen project in central India come April.

These sources stated that the 10-megawatt proton exchange membrane electrolyser, essential for the green-hydrogen production facility situated at the Vijaipur complex in Madhya Pradesh state, has been imported from Canada.

One of the sources mentioned, “Once the initial challenges are addressed during the commissioning phase, we anticipate commencing production within a month.” These sources chose to remain anonymous due to their lack of authorization to speak with the media.

It is anticipated that the unit will generate around 4.3 metric tons of hydrogen daily, boasting a purity level of around 99.99 percent by volume, and would use renewable power. India’s target is to achieve an annual green hydrogen production capacity of 5 million tons by 2030.
