Nepal’s Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba engaged in bilateral discussions at the Raisina Dialogue, focusing on strengthening Nepal-India relations and addressing regional issues such as trade, hydropower cooperation, and climate change, according to the Nepal Embassy in India.
A post by the Embassy on X highlighted the productive nature of Deuba’s meetings: “Productive bilateral meetings by Foreign Minister Hon. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also met with Deuba to discuss various aspects of the India-Nepal relationship. Jaishankar took to social media, saying, “Pleased to meet FM Nepal Arzu Rana Deuba today. Discussed various facets of our bilateral cooperation.”
In a post on X, Deuba shared the key takeaways from her meeting with Jaishankar, saying, “A highly fruitful interaction with H.E. S. Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs of India, on the sidelines of the Raisina Dialogue. We took stock of bilateral ties, discussing ongoing engagements across sectors and exploring new opportunities for enhancing people-to-people and diplomatic exchanges. I expressed my gratitude for India’s Neighborhood First Policy and reiterated Nepal’s continued focus on strengthening relations with India.”
In an interview with ANI, Deuba detailed the primary topics of discussion during her visit to India. “Our main focus is on the joint development of hydropower and expanding trade. These were the central issues we discussed,” she said. She also mentioned that both countries have resumed several important meetings that had previously been delayed, covering topics such as flood management, trade, security, and the sharing of water resources.
Deuba emphasized that Nepal is committed to building a “closer relationship” with India, particularly in areas like energy trade, goods trade, and possibly formalizing border agreements. She also expressed a desire for increased collaboration on global issues, stating, “We are focusing on closer relationships, especially in trade, energy, and working together on global issues.”
The Raisina Dialogue is India’s premier conference on geopolitics and geo-economics, aiming to tackle some of the most pressing global challenges. The event, organized by India’s Ministry of External Affairs, sees participation from world leaders, including prime ministers and foreign ministers from various countries.
