EVA Air signs sustainable aviation fuel procurement agreements with three major suppliers

EVA Air has signed agreements with three major suppliers to buy Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) as part of its effort to reduce pollution from its flights. The suppliers are Associated Energy Group (AEG FUELS) from the United States, COSMO Oil Marketing Company from Japan, and Formosa Petrochemical Corporation from Taiwan.

EVA Air President Clay Sun said that protecting the environment is a responsibility, not just a choice. He explained that working with these three companies shows the airline’s strong commitment to cutting carbon emissions. By bringing in SAF at its airports in North America, Japan, and Taiwan starting in the second quarter of 2025, EVA Air hopes to lower its impact on the environment and push the aviation industry toward greener practices.

The airline already meets European Union rules that require SAF to be used on flights from Europe. Since early 2025, all EVA Air flights leaving Europe have been using a small amount of SAF mixed with regular jet fuel. The new agreements will now allow the airline to use SAF more widely around the world.

Each supplier will play an important role. AEG FUELS is a well-known supplier that can support EVA Air in many locations. COSMO will supply SAF in the Kansai area of Japan, which is important because the Osaka-Kansai Expo will take place there until October 2025. Formosa Petrochemical Corporation is the first company in Taiwan to produce SAF locally, which will strengthen Taiwan’s ability to supply fuel without depending on other countries.

On April 23, 2025, EVA Air took an important step by using Taiwan-made SAF for the first time on two international flights: one from Taipei Songshan Airport to Seoul’s Gimpo International Airport, and another from Kaohsiung International Airport to Kansai International Airport in Japan. This was part of a government pilot programme and showed that Taiwan’s own SAF production is ready for real use.

EVA Air has made many changes over the past few years to protect the environment. It has bought newer, more fuel-efficient planes like the Boeing 787 and Airbus A350-1000 and improved flight routes to use less fuel.

The airline says it will continue to increase its use of SAF and work with others to create a more environmentally friendly future for air travel.
