Ethorka to set up Rs 150-crore ethanol plant in India’s Uttar Pradesh

In a major step towards sustainable fuel production and rural economic upliftment, Ethorka Private Limited is set to establish a zero liquid discharge, grain-based anhydrous ethanol distillery in the Sewapuri block of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh (India). With an estimated investment of Rs. 150 crore, the plant is expected to begin operations by mid-2026, reported ChiniMandi.

The facility will have an installed capacity of 120 Kilo Litres Per Day (KLPD) and forms part of India’s Ethanol Blending Programme (EBP), which seeks to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and strengthen energy security. The foundation stone was laid during Invest UP’s Ground Breaking Ceremony (GBC) 4.0 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 19th February 2024, in the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Ethorka’s project is aligned with national ethanol production goals and is expected to deliver significant local benefits. These include job creation, higher procurement of agricultural produce from local farmers, and environmentally responsible operations through advanced zero liquid discharge technology.

Pragya Singh, Founder and Managing Director of Ethorka Private Limited, said, “This plant will benefit the entire region by creating employment, boosting rural incomes, and supporting India’s green energy transition. Our goal is to make this facility a benchmark in sustainable ethanol production.”

The project is currently in the documentation and regulatory approval stage. Company representatives recently met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow to update him on progress and explore avenues for state-level support.
