Ethanol exports decline to 139 million gallons in February

The United States saw a drop in both ethanol and distillers grains exports in February, according to data released on April 3 by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service (USDA FAS), reports Ethanol Producer Magazine.

Ethanol exports for the month totaled 138.75 million gallons, a decline from the 198.05 million gallons shipped in January and slightly below the 139.02 million gallons exported in February 2024.

Roughly three dozen countries received U.S. ethanol in February. Canada remained the leading importer, purchasing 50.81 million gallons. The Philippines followed with 14.97 million gallons, while the Netherlands imported 14.59 million gallons.

The value of February’s ethanol exports fell to $293.24 million, down from $420.12 million in January and $309.11 million during the same month last year.

Despite February’s dip, total ethanol exports for the first two months of 2025 reached 336.8 million gallons, valued at $713.35 million. That compares to 288.99 million gallons exported in the same period of 2024, worth $647.65 million.

Meanwhile, U.S. exports of distillers grains—a co-product of ethanol production—reached 849,645 metric tons in February. That’s up from the 811,480 metric tons exported in January but down from 986,337 metric tons in February 2024.

Nearly 40 countries imported U.S. distillers grains during the month. Mexico led with 127,203 metric tons, followed by South Korea at 118,840 metric tons and Colombia at 73,911 metric tons.

The value of distillers grains exports reached $205.61 million in February, an increase from $195.93 million in January but a drop from $281.51 million in February 2024.

For the first two months of 2025, distillers grains exports totaled 1.66 million metric tons, valued at $401.54 million. That’s down from 1.89 million metric tons worth $536.28 million exported during the same period last year.

Additional export data is available on the USDA FAS website.
