India is steadily advancing its Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) Programme, with notable increases in both ethanol production and blending rates.
As per data from the Petroleum Planning & Analysis Cell (PPAC), ethanol blending in petrol reached 19.9% in June 2025, during the ongoing Ethanol Supply Year (ESY) 2024–25. The average blending rate for the period between November 2024 and June 2025 stood at 18.9%.
In June 2025 alone, Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) procured 87.5 crore litres of ethanol through the EBP Programme. From November 2024 to June 2025, their total ethanol offtake amounted to 637.4 crore litres.
According to the data, 88.9 crore litres of ethanol were blended into petrol in June 2025, bringing the total ethanol blending volume to 661.1 crore litres over the eight-month period.
The government aims to achieve 20% ethanol blending in petrol by ESY 2025–26. Since the EBP Programme began, ethanol blending has risen from 38 crore litres in ESY 2013–14 to over 707.4 crore litres in ESY 2023–24. This growth led to an average blending rate of 14.6% in ESY 2023–24.
