Enviva to shut down biomass plant in Amory, Mississippi

Enviva will shut down its biomass plant in Amory, Mississippi, on February 7 due to market conditions and the facility’s infrastructure and operations, reports Bioenergy Insight.

The plant, which produces 115,000 metric tonnes of wood pellets annually, was the company’s first U.S. site. Enviva acquired it in 2010 from CKS Energy.

Enviva said this decision is in line with an overall review into its operations undertaken after a process of restructuring the company. This company noted the size and nature of the infrastructures at that plant no longer align with those in its final operational plans.

“We have made the difficult decision to close our Amory facility as we focus on improving efficiency across our operations,” the company said. “Given the market situation and the plant’s infrastructure, we believe our resources are better invested in other areas.”

Enviva appreciated the employees who have worked at the facility and assured support during the transition. The company remains committed to producing sustainable wood pellets and ensuring long-term business growth despite these changes.
