EcoYou, the green innovation arm of Ecoboard Industries Limited, is making waves in sustainable construction by converting agricultural waste into high-performance, eco-friendly materials. Its core product, EcoBoard, is manufactured from natural fibers such as wheat straw, rice husk, cotton stalk, coconut husk, and sugarcane bagasse. These versatile boards are widely used in furniture, partitions, ceilings, and flooring—offering an environmentally responsible alternative to traditional plywood, MDF, and plastic-based materials.
So far, the initiative has helped avoid an estimated 116 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions by reducing crop burning and deforestation. In the process, it has also saved over 10 million trees typically harvested for wood-based construction.
By sourcing raw materials directly from farmers, EcoYou has injected approximately $24 million into rural supply chains, positively impacting farmers, artisans, and carpenters. The initiative’s broader economic impact is estimated at around $240 million, driven by job creation and the promotion of sustainable livelihoods.
“EcoYou’s CO₂-capture technology, rooted in traditional Indian principles of sustainable living, has already transformed 22 million tonnes of agro-waste into building materials and furniture over the past 33 years,” said Praveen Gottumukkala, Director at EcoYou. “This has generated about $80 million in direct value for farmers and contributed to forest conservation.”
In addition to construction materials, EcoYou’s EcoEnergy division focuses on converting industrial solid and liquid waste into clean energy. Using advanced Sulzer-based CSTR technology, it has installed over 125 large-scale projects worldwide with a combined capacity of 2.5 million cubic meters, capable of producing 0.5 million tonnes of compressed biogas (CBG) annually—an achievement that helps offset 0.5 million tonnes of coal use each year.
“Our decades of work demonstrate that what’s often seen as waste is actually a powerful resource,” added Gottumukkala. “Our approach naturally reduces emissions, preserves forests, and supports farming communities. We’re now also exporting EcoBoards to European markets.”
EcoBoards are not just environmentally sound—they’re built to last. These boards are fire-retardant, moisture-resistant, termite-proof, non-toxic, and well-suited for homes, offices, schools, and hotels.
EcoYou’s production process is dry, zero-waste, low-emission, and powered by renewable energy and recyclable inputs, reinforcing the company’s commitment to circular manufacturing. With sustainability embedded into every aspect of its operations, EcoYou is setting a new benchmark for green manufacturing in India.
Looking ahead, the company plans to expand production capacity, strengthen partnerships with architects and builders, and collaborate with corporates, government bodies, and international organizations to promote responsible construction practices and support global ESG objectives.
