Chinese energy company Zhongneng Yida New Energy has chosen Danish process technology firm Topsoe to supply technology for its upcoming sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production facility in Hebei province, China. The announcement was made on May 15, reports Oil & Fats International.
The new plant, located in the Shenze Economy Development Zone in the city of Shijiazhuang, will produce 400,000 tonnes of SAF annually using used cooking oil (UCO) as feedstock. The fuel will be exported to both European and Chinese markets.
As part of the agreement, Topsoe will provide its HydroFlex™ technology and catalysts, which are specifically designed to convert fats, oils, and greases into renewable jet fuel and diesel. The HydroFlex process can be applied to both new facilities and upgrades of existing units for co-processing or standalone use.
Construction of the Zhongneng Yida facility is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2025, with operations set to commence in the first half of 2027.
Topsoe’s Chief Commercial Officer, Elena Scaltritti, highlighted the importance of the partnership: “This collaboration with Zhongneng Yida reflects our mutual commitment to supporting the aviation industry’s ambitions to move towards net zero. The project will add further momentum to the supply of SAF across Europe and China.”
