Canfor’s Sustainability Report focuses on responsible approach to biomass activity

Canfor Corporation and Canfor Pulp Products Inc. have released their joint 2024 Sustainability Report, outlining their commitment to environmental, social, and governance initiatives while tracking progress on key sustainability goals, reported Bioenergy Insight.

The report highlights the companies’ achievements in sustainable forest management, with 100% of Canfor-managed forests certified under SFI(TM) or FSC(TM) standards. Additionally, all fibre sourced in North American operations meets the SFI Fibre Sourcing Standard, and 100% of Swedish forestry operations are certified to the PEFC Forest Management Standard. Canfor planted 62 million seedlings this year, bringing the total to over 1 billion trees planted in the past 20 years.

In workplace safety and employee well-being, Canfor has launched a global safety forum, implemented new safety initiatives, and expanded employee development programs.

Through its community investment program, Good Things Come From Trees, Canfor has donated over $2 million to various causes, including hurricane disaster relief, education scholarships for future forestry professionals, and sponsorship of sports organizations in Sweden.

The company remains committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. In 2024, the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) approved Canfor’s near-term and long-term emissions reduction targets. Nearly 80% of the company’s operations are now powered by renewable energy.

“Sustainability is at the core of our business, and we constantly strive to improve in all areas—our planet, our people, and our customers,” said Canfor President and CEO Susan Yurkovich. “Our employees are implementing sustainability programs, maintaining safety, developing new renewable products, and supplying high-quality, low-carbon forest products to meet global demand.”
