Brazil will need about US$21 billion in investment by 2035 to expand its biofuel sector, according to a new report released by the Ministry of Mines and Energy, reports TV Brics.
The analysis points to major opportunities in producing electricity from farm waste, which could help increase clean power generation. It also highlights the potential for biomethane, made from agricultural and other waste, to strengthen Brazil’s gas supply and reduce the use of fossil fuels.
For biodiesel, the study predicts steady demand, mainly driven by the transport sector. It notes that careful sourcing of raw materials will remain important to avoid environmental harm.
The report adds that Brazil’s expected biofuel production capacity will be enough to meet national targets, with extra supplies that could be used in shipping and other industries.
Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is seen as another key area. The projections show that projects under way and in planning could provide a significant amount of SAF each year, helping the aviation sector cut emissions and move toward climate goals.
The report stresses the need for strong investment in new plants, upgrades to current facilities, use of different raw materials, and improved infrastructure to support growth.
With these steps, Brazil could strengthen its position as a global leader in renewable fuels while helping to reduce emissions worldwide.
