Gopalganj, Bihar: In a major development for sugarcane farmers, Gopalganj is set to welcome its third ethanol plant. Vishnu Sugar Mill is preparing to establish the plant, with construction expected to begin as soon as the sugarcane crushing season concludes. The plant will have a production capacity of 60 kiloliters (KL) of ethanol, and approval for its establishment has already been granted. With a budget exceeding ₹100 crores, the technical team has completed the site survey. The mill has ample land available for the project, and with the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the government already in hand, financial discussions are now underway.
The new ethanol plant is expected to provide significant relief to sugarcane farmers by ensuring quick payments after their crops are harvested, which will improve their cash flow. Additionally, the plant will generate employment opportunities for local residents. This facility will be the third ethanol plant in Gopalganj, following the ones established at Rajapatti Kothi by Sona Sati and Bharat Sugar Mill Sidhwalia. Ethanol production will be based on molasses, a by-product of sugar manufacturing. To maintain smooth operations, the mill will need a steady supply of sugarcane.
According to reports, Vishnu Sugar Mill plans to process 70 lakh quintals of sugarcane during the 2025-26 crushing season, ensuring a steady supply of molasses for ethanol production. P.R.S. Panicker, the General Manager of the sugar mill, confirmed that the mill is fully prepared for the establishment of the plant. Discussions are currently ongoing between the mill, the company responsible for the plant’s construction, and the financial institutions providing backing for the project.
