Patna: Ashoka Buildcon, a construction engineering company, has announced plans to invest Rs 9,000 crore in establishing a green hydrogen plant in Bihar, according to Mayank Sharma, the company’s Chief Operating Officer (Renewable Energy). The announcement came on Friday following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state government, formalizing the investment commitment.
The company, based in Maharashtra, is involved in highway construction, power distribution, and solar projects. Sharma stated that the company plans to develop a 1,250MW solar project to generate clean electricity, which will then be used to produce green hydrogen through water electrolysis.
“The first phase of the plant is being planned at Begusarai in Bihar,” Sharma said. Green hydrogen is considered the cleanest form of energy, emitting only water when used as fuel.
Sharma added that the initial phase of the project is expected to take 1.5 to 2 years to become operational after obtaining all necessary approvals. The second phase will be implemented subsequently.
