Ariztía to power operations with 100% renewable energy in landmark deal

In a major step toward sustainable energy in Chile’s agri-food industry, poultry producer Ariztía has signed a long-term agreement with Copec EMOAC to supply all of its operations with 100% renewable electricity, starting in May 2025, reports Bioenergy Insight.

The seven-year agreement will see Ariztía receive 108.6 GWh of electricity annually from a certified mix of solar, wind, hydro, and biomass sources. Copec EMOAC, a subsidiary of Chilean energy company Copec, will provide the energy under internationally recognized I-REC and CER certification standards to ensure transparency and traceability.

Biomass energy—produced from organic waste and byproducts—plays a particularly important role in this deal. It is a natural fit for sectors like agriculture and food processing, which generate large amounts of bio-waste. Its inclusion highlights the growing importance of bioenergy in sustainable business practices.

Arturo Natho, general manager of Copec, said the energy plan was specifically tailored to meet Ariztía’s operational needs. The agreement reflects a broader shift in how major companies are looking to reduce their environmental impact by incorporating diverse renewable energy sources.

Ariztía’s general manager, Paulo Ariztía, said the company views this transition as part of a long-term vision to protect the environment for future generations. He noted that the company has already introduced measures in areas such as water use, packaging, and animal welfare. This new energy agreement, he said, adds another layer to their sustainability efforts.

The contract is expected to prevent more than 21,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions over its term, underlining the environmental value of switching to a fully renewable energy supply.

The deal was supported by energy consultants Valgesta Energía and Alma Energía, who advised on its design and implementation.
