ANDRITZ to engineer another 100 MW green hydrogen plant for Germany

International technology group ANDRITZ has been awarded a contract for the authority engineering of a 100 MW green hydrogen plant to be built in Rostock, Germany, reports Hydrogen Central.

The order was placed by REPCO (rostock EnergyPort cooperation GmbH), a joint venture between RWE Generation SE, EnBW Neue Energien GmbH, RheinEnergie AG, and Rostock Port GmbH. Subject to a final investment decision expected by mid-2025, REPCO plans to authorize ANDRITZ to proceed with the full supply of the plant.

Once approved, ANDRITZ will deliver the facility on an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) basis, using HydrogenPro’s pressurized alkaline technology for hydrogen production. The project scope includes the main hydrogen production plant, supporting infrastructure and utilities, hydrogen purification and compression systems, storage units, and a hydrogen refueling station. Commissioning is scheduled for 2027.

The Rostock plant will be among the first in Germany connected to the country’s upcoming Hydrogen Core Network — a key pipeline system for hydrogen distribution across Europe, due to become operational in 2028. The facility will also support local industry and transportation sectors, contributing to Germany’s decarbonization goals.

Michael Wurzel, Managing Director at REPCO, described the project as the centerpiece of the HyTechHafen Rostock initiative. “This is a crucial project for Rostock, reinforcing the area’s role as a key hub for energy transport. ANDRITZ has shown a strong understanding of the project and a collaborative spirit, which we greatly value,” he said.

Sami Pelkonen, Executive Vice President for Green Hydrogen at ANDRITZ, noted the importance of partnerships in achieving sustainability goals. “No one can drive the green transition alone,” he said. “We are proud to work alongside major German energy companies and Rostock Port GmbH to help shape a more sustainable future.”

REPCO was established in 2022 to spearhead the development of green hydrogen infrastructure in Germany. This is the second major green hydrogen order ANDRITZ has received in the country, following a similar contract with Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH.
