Andhra Pradesh CM proposes Rs 28,436-crore green energy corridor to connect renewable energy power project to central grid

New Delhi: In a major step toward expanding its renewable energy footprint, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has announced a proposal for a ₹28,436-crore green energy corridor aimed at linking renewable power projects across the state to the central grid, reports The Economic Times.

As part of its goal to generate 72 GW of green energy by 2029, the state government is planning to build a comprehensive transmission network and central substations to support power transfer from various renewable energy and pumped storage projects.

Sources familiar with the plan said the new corridor will enable the transmission of 11,000 MW from renewable sources and 7,000 MW from pumped storage projects, significantly contributing to India’s national renewable energy goals.

The state is currently dealing with two key challenges. Most of the renewable energy potential and pumped storage facilities are concentrated in the Rayalaseema region, which lacks adequate infrastructure to transmit power over long distances. Meanwhile, power demand is growing rapidly in coastal Andhra Pradesh, where large-scale developments such as green hydrogen hubs, data centers, and industrial zones are being set up.

“This project is a crucial step toward balancing power generation and demand across the state,” said a government official. “It will help ensure that clean energy generated in one region can efficiently reach areas where it’s needed most.”
