Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu virtually inaugurated Hero Future Energies’ (HFE) Rs 1,000-crore green hydrogen plant at Rockman Industries in Tirupati on Monday.
The HFE facility blends green hydrogen with Piped Natural Gas (PNG) and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) to support industrial heating applications.
“I’m proud to inaugurate this first-of-its-kind green hydrogen plant in Tirupati. Developed by HFE and Rockman Industries, this innovative project blends Green Hydrogen with LPG/PNG for industrial use, marking a significant milestone in the effort toward industrial decarbonization,” Naidu shared in a post on ‘X’.
The plant, equipped with a 300 kW PEM electrolyzer, is powered by a 1.1 MWp rooftop solar system, which allows for blending up to 10% green hydrogen in LPG and 3% in PNG. The facility provides employment to 2,000 people and has an annual green hydrogen production capacity of 25 TPA, with potential for expansion to 54 TPA, according to an official statement.
Environmentally, the plant is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 206 TPA and generate up to 195 TPA of oxygen.
Highlighting the significance of the project, the chief minister noted that it sets a new standard for India’s clean energy transition and demonstrates the potential of scalable, sustainable solutions. “The success of this initiative offers a model for industries like glass, steel, petrochemicals, and chemicals to adopt hydrogen-based solutions without major infrastructure changes,” Naidu explained.
Describing this development as a major achievement, the CM emphasized that it reflects Andhra Pradesh’s commitment to leading India’s green energy revolution in line with the SwarnaAndhra@2047 vision.
Naidu also pointed out that the Andhra Pradesh Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024 is a bold step toward adding over 160 GW of renewable energy capacity and attracting investments totaling up to USD 119 billion within the next five years.
“With its strategic location, deep-sea ports, robust logistics network, and industry-friendly policies, Andhra Pradesh is set to become a global hub for green hydrogen exports, serving both domestic and international markets,” Naidu added.
