With aircraft capable of operating on up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), Air Astana Group has placed its largest direct aircraft order to date, signing a firm deal for 25 Airbus A320neo Family jets from Airbus, Safar India reported.
The order comprises five A320neo and 20 A321neo aircraft and coincides with 20 years since the airline began operating its first Airbus A320 in 2006.
Air Astana CEO Peter Foster said the purchase supports the group’s long-term fleet expansion and efficiency goals. He noted that the A320neo Family has already been part of the airline’s fleet for several years, with the A321LR allowing longer narrow-body routes and improved passenger services.
The new aircraft will be deployed across both Air Astana and its low-cost arm, FlyArystan, as part of the group’s fleet renewal and growth plans. The airline currently operates 59 Airbus A320 Family aircraft.
Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President Sales at Airbus’ Commercial Aircraft business, said the order reflects continued demand for the A320neo Family in the region and strengthens the long-standing partnership between Airbus and the airline.
The A320neo Family is a single-aisle aircraft range that has received more than 19,000 orders worldwide. The A321neo variant offers extended range and improved efficiency. Compared with earlier-generation aircraft, the A320neo Family provides around 20% lower fuel consumption and carbon emissions, along with cabin enhancements.
Airbus aims to make all its aircraft capable of operating on 100% SAF by 2030.
