India launches green hydrogen certification scheme to boost clean energy market

India has launched a new system to officially certify the production of green hydrogen, aiming to make the process more transparent and trustworthy. The system, called the Green Hydrogen Certification Scheme (GHCI), was announced by Union Minister Pralhad Joshi during a workshop held in New Delhi. The event focused on the role of small and medium-sized businesses (MSMEs) in the green hydrogen industry, reports Construction World.

The new certification system is part of India’s larger plan to move towards cleaner energy sources. It will help ensure that green hydrogen—hydrogen made using renewable energy—is properly identified and trusted by buyers both in India and abroad.

More than 300 people attended the workshop, including business owners, technology experts, industry groups, and international guests. They discussed how MSMEs can help develop the green hydrogen industry by creating new ideas and building systems that can grow over time.

The government hopes the certification will encourage local companies to produce green hydrogen and support India’s efforts to fight climate change. It also aims to help Indian companies become leaders in the global green hydrogen market.
