Jord and Votion Biorefineries partner to convert C4-Grass biomass into biocrude and sustainable aviation fuel

Jord AB and Votion Biorefineries AB are excited to announce a strategic partnership aimed at transforming Jord’s sustainable C4-grass biomass into biocrude and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This collaboration seeks to accelerate the global energy transition and reduce carbon emissions in sectors that are difficult to decarbonize, such as transportation, aviation, and chemicals.

About Jord and Votion Biorefineries
Jord focuses on the cultivation and commercialization of C4-grass biomass and solid biofuels, grown on marginal or degraded lands in Senegal and the Dominican Republic. This fast-growing biomass helps sequester carbon, regenerate soils, and serves as an excellent feedstock for renewable energy solutions.

Founded in 2022, Votion Biorefineries is a Swedish company dedicated to tackling global warming through scalable, feedstock-flexible biorefinery technologies. Votion specializes in converting sustainable biomass into advanced biofuels, SAF, renewable chemicals, and by-products such as fertilizers and biogas.

Driving the Green Transition
By combining their expertise, Jord and Votion aim to:

  • Accelerate the decarbonization of the energy and aviation industries.
  • Develop scalable, profitable biofuel production solutions.
  • Promote socio-economic growth in the regions where they operate.

“This partnership offers a remarkable opportunity to push forward innovative biofuel solutions,” said Anders Edling Hultgren, CEO of Votion Biorefineries. “By merging Votion’s cutting-edge biorefinery technologies with Jord’s sustainably grown biomass, we are creating a scalable model for impactful energy solutions that meet the urgent need for decarbonization. Jord’s C4-grass cultivation on marginal lands in regions like Latin America and Africa already delivers significant climate benefits by improving soil health and capturing carbon from the atmosphere. Together, we will convert this renewable biomass into biocrude, SAF, and other biochemicals, driving cleaner energy and lower emissions across aviation, transport, and the chemical industries.”

Peder Dagsánth, CEO of Jord AB, added, “At Jord, we are committed to restoring the carbon cycle and fostering sustainable development in the communities where we operate. Partnering with Votion Biorefineries enables us to amplify the impact of our C4-grass biomass and make a meaningful contribution to transforming global energy systems.”

Strategic Initiatives
Through this collaboration, Jord and Votion will:

  • Develop a joint market offering that combines sustainable biomass supply with advanced biocrude production technologies.
  • Explore opportunities to establish Votion’s biorefineries in Jord’s production areas, creating local supply chains and reducing transport emissions.
  • Investigate the performance and economic viability of Jord’s C4-grass biomass in biocrude production.
  • Collaborate on business models, financing strategies, and customer acquisition for their joint offering.
  • Work towards launching the first biomass-to-crude (BTC) facility within eight years, targeting markets that are still heavily reliant on fossil fuels.
