Chhattisgarh is poised to become a key player in green hydrogen production, and the state intends to offer substantial incentives to attract investors under its new Industrial Policy 2024-29, aimed at fostering a green economy. This announcement was made during the recent Global Renewable Energy Investor Meet-2024, specifically at the “Green Hydrogen CEO Round Table” in Gujarat, which was attended by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Energy Department Secretary P. Dayanand.
Sumit Sarkar, CEO of the Chhattisgarh Biofuel Development Authority (CBDA), represented the state at the conference, emphasizing the significant opportunities in unconventional energy. He urged investment in biomass-based projects, including bioethanol, biojet fuel, compressed biogas, and green hydrogen.
The conference highlighted the abundance of biomass resources in Chhattisgarh’s rural areas, such as agricultural waste, dairy byproducts, market waste from fruits and vegetables, and cow dung. With the right technology, these resources could facilitate large-scale green hydrogen production. Success in this initiative could enable the use of green hydrogen in major local industries like steel, food processing, and fertilizers. This aligns with the National Green Hydrogen Mission’s goal of producing 5 million metric tons of green hydrogen by 2030, contributing to India’s energy self-sufficiency and conservation efforts.
Sarkar assured investors that the new Industrial Policy 2024-29 would offer significant incentives for investments in the green economy, fostering job creation within the state.
