BPCL’s E20 network increases to 4,279 fuel stations

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) is making every effort to expand its E20 fuel offerings. E20 petrol, which consists of 20% anhydrous ethanol and 80% motor gasoline, is blended by volume.

BPCL’s E20 network expands to 4,279 fuel stations, covering 18% of company’s total strength, driving India’s journey towards a greener future.

The government is actively promoting biofuels to meet several key goals, such as reducing import dependency, creating jobs, providing better remuneration for farmers, offering environmental benefits, and improving waste management practices. Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) started selling E20 petrol in 2023, with plans for nationwide coverage.

As of September 1, 2024, official data shows that 16,059 PSU outlets out of a total of 82,617 PSU retail outlets are dispensing E20 ethanol-blended motor spirit.

In August, the blending of ethanol in petrol reached 15.8%, while cumulative ethanol blending from November 2023 to August 2024 totaled 13.6%.

  1. I am NRI returning to India from USA after 50 years. With my proprietary 2G Ethanol Biorefinery technology, we are able to supply Ethanol for E80 blending for petrol and E15 blending with diesel across India phase wise. We use agricultural crop residues including bamboo, jute, (called lignocellulosic biomass) etc. So, there is never a conflict of food or fuel. Ethanol is a secondary product in my 2G Biorefinery. We give farmers 10% more for their crop residues, practically give away Ethanol, yet can generate 35 to 40% ROI. We are looking for long term off-take agreements with PMCs. Interested parties should reply with their contact information.
