Telangana has introduced an ethanol-powered mobile electric vehicle (EV) charging system, a technology aimed at expanding green mobility while reducing dependence on conventional grid electricity, Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy said, according to ANI.
Speaking to ANI after inaugurating KETO Motors Limited’s first commercial nine-metre electric bus in Hyderabad on Sunday, Reddy said the company had also unveiled a mobile EV charging unit that generates power using ethanol instead of relying solely on conventional electricity.
The minister described the technology as a significant innovation that could support both clean transportation and India’s biofuel programme by creating additional demand for ethanol.
According to Reddy, the mobile charging system can be deployed wherever temporary EV charging infrastructure is required, making it suitable for remote locations, events and areas with limited grid connectivity.
He said the initiative would not only promote green energy but also benefit farmers by encouraging ethanol production, while helping India reduce petroleum imports and lower transport-related emissions.
Reddy urged greater adoption of electric vehicles, saying the transition would contribute to improved air quality, lower fuel imports and better public health outcomes.
At the event, KETO Motors also launched its first commercial 35-seater, nine-metre electric bus, designed primarily for employee transportation. Company Director Venkatesh Challa said the bus features pushback seats and is intended for corporate fleet operations, including services for companies such as Microsoft, Google and Capgemini.
The company also signed three memoranda of understanding (MoUs) during the event held in Hyderabad, which was attended by Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) Vice-Chairman and Managing Director Y. Nagi Reddy.
The ethanol-based charging solution reflects growing interest in integrating biofuels with electric mobility as India seeks to diversify clean transport technologies while supporting its ethanol blending and domestic renewable energy objectives.
