Indiana: South Bend ethanol plant begins expansion project

Expansion is on the card for the South Bend ethanol plant, now owned by Verbio, reported WSBT.com

The groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday morning officially marked the start of the $230 million project.

The $230 million expansion of the ethanol plant aims to bring more climate-friendly energy to the area.

Since Verbio acquired the ethanol plant in May 2023, it has embarked on this significant expansion. This expansion will enable the production of renewable natural gas (RNG), which officials say will create additional jobs for the company.

Bioethanol production will continue alongside RNG, using a similar corn-based process. According to Verbio, RNG will be produced from corn stillage, a co-product of ethanol production.
