Iowa awards $1.86 million in grants to expand biofuel infrastructure

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig announced that the Iowa Renewable Fuels Infrastructure Program (RFIP) board has approved 48 new grants totaling more than $1.86 million to support expanded biofuel infrastructure across the state. The grants, approved during the RFIP board’s quarterly meeting on September 16, aim to help drivers access lower-cost, cleaner-burning fuels such as biodiesel and E15 (Unleaded 88), reports Ethanol Producer Magazine.

The 48 projects span 25 counties, with a total state cost-share of $1,864,344.37. “We are helping make affordable, cleaner-burning options like E15 and biodiesel more widely available, giving Iowans more ways to save at the pump,” Secretary Naig said. “These investments boost our economy, strengthen rural communities, and advance cleaner, more affordable energy across Iowa.”

Since 2006, Iowa has invested over $65 million through the program, matched by about $275 million from local convenience stores and fuel retailers. The funding also supports compliance with Iowa’s E15 Access Standard, which requires most fuel retailers to offer E15 by January 1, 2026.
