Japanese conglomerate Swung, Inc. is exploring a partnership with biofuel producers in the Philippines to develop sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), according to the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), reports BusinessWorld.
In late May, PCA officials met with Swung CEO Manabu Mizoguchi and representatives from Green Carbon Co., Ltd. and Kira Shoten Co., Ltd. The discussions included the use of byproducts from coconut and other crops for SAF production.
Swung has also held talks with the Department of Energy’s Renewable Energy Management Bureau. While global regulations for SAF production—especially under the CORSIA scheme—are still under review, the PCA said it is open to facilitating further discussions with key agencies like the Department of Energy and the Sugar Regulatory Administration to explore technical viability and industry alignment.
The talks also included the possible local production of Swung’s patented organic fertilizer, which uses organic waste materials like coconut residues, sugarcane, and beer waste. Fifty kilograms of the fertilizer were submitted in March for evaluation by Philippine authorities.
